MUNMBA (National Whale Museum)

MUNMBA (National Whale Museum)

As a visitor, you can gain in-depth knowledge of their life history through sensory experiences, interactive exhibits, and one of the most diverse collections of cetacean skeletons in Mexico and Latin America.
The National Whale Museum (MUNBA) is a place to immerse yourself in the fascinating world of cetaceans, from majestic whales to friendly dolphins.
The architectural project is the work of renowned Mexican architect Alejandro D'Acosta, whose avant-garde architecture transforms MUNBA into a unique venue that breaks the traditional boundaries of art and exhibition. The use of recycled materials, as is the author's signature, promotes a culture of sustainability. In this particular case, it is the use of shipping containers, which are embedded in the building with whimsical shapes, creating fascinating spaces for contemplation that invite reflection on the bounty of our Mexican seas and the giants that sail their waters.
The distinctive black and white geometric pattern used on the building is inspired by the dazzle camouflage used in World War I, a camouflage pattern used on ships and boats. The pattern consists of complex geometric shapes intended to confuse the enemy about the ship's course.
