Calle del Arsenal, now Venustiano Carranza
This street was initially called "del Muelle" (of the Dock), then "del Ancla" (of the Anchor), followed by "del Arsenal" (of the Arsenal), and eventually "Venustiano Carranza." Its first name was due to the dock that was in front of the customs warehouse. It was known by this name until 1860 when it was changed to Arsenal because of the presence of a cannon with its arsenal at Fortín de la Paz. Finally, it was named after the president. It was a very important street because it was the route from the center to the dock and the Maritime Customs. Along its path were customs agencies, ship signing companies, and notably the Foundry of Sinaloa.
It was a crucial street because it provided access from the center to the dock and the Maritime Customs.
Next to Calle Principal and Olas Altas, it was one of the busiest thoroughfares from the early 19th century. Since the construction of the Maritime Customs and its warehouses on one side of the street in 1828, accompanied by the battery that gave the street its name, where sailors and soldiers loyal to the merchants were stationed, its primary activity was related to the sea. Even today, you can see magnificent residences of consuls and ambassadors in its vicinity who took advantage of its location. There is also the abandoned Paredes mansion, where the first Nautical School and later the University of Mazatlán operated in earlier times.
