Plazuela República

Plazuela República

The Plazuela República, located in the heart of Mazatlán, has a rich history and continues to be a bustling and lively area within the city. Originally, this space was privately owned until the time of the Imperial Municipality of Mazatlán from 1864 to 1866. It was owned by Don Juan de Cima and was later used to establish the Municipal Market. In the year 1900, the municipal market was moved to the famous "Mercado de Hierro" (Iron Market), now known as Pino Suárez Market.

A bust of Benito Juárez and its pedestal were first placed at the center of the plazuela on March 21, 1906. Later, Casa Melchers donated a kiosk, which was installed in 1909 and remains there to this day.

Today, Plazuela República is located in the heart of Mazatlán's downtown area. This makes it one of the liveliest spots, characterized by its vibrant activity and combined with the tranquility of its walkways. The plazuela still features a central kiosk, benches, and green areas with leafy trees, evoking the charm of its early days. It provides a peaceful retreat for anyone looking for a cool spot to rest under the shade of its trees, enjoying an ice cream or shaved ice before resuming their activities in downtown Mazatlán.
