Juárez Building
The first mention of this property dates back to 1846 when it belonged to the German Gerardo Denghausen and was called "The Hospital." The estate was constructed in 1854, built by Mr. Diego de la Peña. The next owner was Mr. Pedro Echeguren, holding the property since 1865. The Grand Society was located on the second floor from 1860. Also on the second floor was the Club de la Unión or German Club, where the numerous German colony of Mazatlán gathered for major celebrations related to their homeland. Subsequently, the Benito Juárez Commercial Circle was established, lasting from 1920 for almost forty years.
The Juárez Building represents some of the finest examples of emblematic 19th-century architecture in the Historic Center.
Situated just north of Plazuela Machado on Constitución and Carnaval, right next to the Plaza, the Juárez Building stands as one of the finest examples of 19th and early 20th-century emblematic architecture in the Historic Center. This magnificent building features a spectacular second floor with a beautifully wrought iron balcony designed by the Spaniard Federico Imana. The Juárez Building housed both businesses and provided space for recreational activities. Many organizations in Mazatlán, such as La Gran Sociedad, the German Club, the Benito Juárez Group, and the Lions Club, held meetings on the second floor, while a hardware store, medical offices, a pharmacy, and a publishing house occupied the ground-level offices.
