Mazatlán strengthens its historic identity with new informational plaques in downtown

Mazatlán’s Historic Center now has 30 informational plaques installed on its most iconic streets and buildings, as part of a project promoted by the Mazatlán Historic Center Governing Council (CORCEHM). These stainless steel plaques offer historical information about buildings, personalities, and traditions that have shaped the port’s culture. The initiative aims to educate both tourists and locals about and appreciate the city’s architectural and social heritage.

Each plaque includes a QR code that directs visitors to a digital platform with expanded information, vintage photographs, and interesting details. This technological tool allows for an interactive experience, ideal for younger generations accustomed to immediate access to information. According to CORCEHM, the project seeks to combine the preservation of historical memory with innovation, adapting to the needs of modern tourism.

The placement of these plaques is part of a comprehensive revitalization plan for the city’s main square, which includes infrastructure improvements, cultural promotion, and economic revitalization. Among the sites that already have these signs are the Ángela Peralta Theater, the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, and old mansions on Paseo Olas Altas.
