Mazatlán’s urban landscape is undergoing a remarkable transformation thanks to a project that seeks to install more than 100 murals along Emilio Barragán Avenue. This initiative, driven by local artists and cultural authorities, aims to transform this important thoroughfare into a space for artistic expression that reflects the port’s identity and cultural diversity. The murals, which address themes such as local history, marine life, and Sinaloan traditions, are already beginning to breathe new life into walls that had previously been forgotten.

The proposal is part of the “MazatlART” program, an ambitious strategy that seeks to beautify the city through urban art. According to Noro.Mx, this project not only includes the creation of murals, but also the rehabilitation of public spaces and the integration of artistic elements into street furniture. The organizers emphasize that this initiative has brought together more than 50 local artists, who are leaving their creative mark in different parts of the city, with a special emphasis on areas in need of urban regeneration.

The most notable aspect of this artistic movement is its community focus. The residents of Emilio Barragán Avenue have shown great enthusiasm for the transformation of their surroundings, actively participating in the selection of themes and collaborating with the artists during the creative process. This social appropriation of public space has generated a domino effect, inspiring other neighborhoods to request similar interventions in their areas. Cultural authorities anticipate that, once completed, this artistic corridor will become a new tourist attraction and meeting point for the Mazatlan community.

With this project, Mazatlán consolidates its position as a benchmark for urban art in northwestern Mexico, following the example of other cities that have used public art as a tool for urban regeneration and social cohesion. The organizers announce that, after completing the murals on Emilio Barragán Avenue, the MazatlART program will expand to other areas of the city, with the goal of creating a true open-air museum that can be enjoyed in every corner of the port.
